LTE: Hearts & Hands Hospice: National Healthcare Decisions Day

April 16 was designated as National Healthcare Decisions Day. The goal of this designation is to inspire, educate and empower the public about the importance of advance care planning.

Making future health care decisions includes more than filling out a living will or a medical power of attorney. It starts with expressing preferences, clarifying values and having the conversation about what your wishes are if you are unable to speak for yourself.

Advance care planning involves talking with your loved ones, your health care provider and even your friends. It is important to make your wishes known and the only way to do that is to have that conversation… as hard or as uncomfortable as it may be. These important conversations will relieve loved ones and your medical provider of the need to guess what you would want if you are ever facing a health care or medical crisis.

Hearts & Hands Hospice has information and resources to help you have that conversation. Talk to us. We can help.
