Time for change

“Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed every so often,” Mayor Mark Stephens said Monday afternoon.

It’s time for new blood on the Big Timber City Council, he said, which is why he will not be returning for a third term.

Three city council positions are open for election: mayor, currently held by Stephens, Bill Miller’s position as city councilman for Ward 1, and a city councilman for Ward 2, held by Justin Ferguson.

The deadline to file for the open spots is 5 p.m. Monday, June 19. As of Tuesday morning, no applications have been received, Sweet Grass County Election Administrator Vera Pederson reported.

The filing fee for city council members is $28.20 and mayor is $53.40. All the positions are paid a flat monthly rate of $235 for council members and $445 for the mayor.
